How is a school eligible to be a Duffy school?
Eligibility for the Duffy Books in Homes programme is based on the EQI index. Schools with an EQI index of 471 and above are eligible to join the programme.
How does funding work?
The Duffy programme works by matching a Duffy school with a Funding Partner. Both the school and funding partner pay 50% of the cost of four books per student per year, with the other two books fully funded by the government.
What is a funding partner?
A funding partner is an individual/business or organisation that partners with a school (or schools) and together they cover the cost of books for all tamariki at that school.
How involved do Funding Partners have to be?
As a funding partner, you can be involved on whichever level works best for you. Some funding partners attend every Duffy assembly and might even have staff who volunteer at the school. Others prefer to just make a financial contribution.
How much does it cost for a partner to support a Duffy school?
The cost is dependent on the school roll. The cost for a funding partner to support a school each year is approximately $15 per student. Click here to become a Funding Partner.
Can I choose which school I’d like to support?
Yes, you can choose from the list of schools currently needing a Funding Partner.
How often are Funding Partners invoiced?
Invoices are sent out after Book Offers 1 and 3 (April and September) and are based on how many children ordered books in each book offer (Book Offer 2 is fully funded by the government).
Will the cost stay the same each year?
Not necessarily. Costs may fluctuate depending on your school’s roll size. If you’d like to contribute a specific amount, just let us know — we’re happy to work with your budget.
What if I can’t commit to being a Funding Partner right now? Are there other ways to help?
Yes, you can also make a one-off or regular donation to support the work we do in schools around the country. All donations are gratefully received and ensure we can continue our work. Donations over $5 are tax-deductible.
