Why Teresa believes in the programme

Meet Teresa Kane

Teresa became involved with Duffy as a Funding Partner when she started working at Westpac four years ago. Her children were Duffy kids and now her grandchildren are too, so she’s always known about Duffy. As a representative for Westpac Waihi, Teresa has enjoyed visiting schools for Role Model assemblies and meeting Role Models from all walks of life. She says it’s a rewarding and uplifting experience as “when you speak to the kids, they share their reading journeys and I get to talk about my daughter’s experience with Duffy books and her story.  Hopefully this encourages them to pick up a book and read.”

Teresa comes from a family of avid readers, so she knows the importance of reading and says: “The Duffy programme makes reading accessible to all children, especially for those who might not have a book to read at home. It makes a huge difference to these kids and there are other benefits such as creativity and confidence that they get from being a part of the programme.”

She says to anyone thinking about becoming a sponsor/funding partner, “Do it because it can have a huge impact for those kids who don’t have access to books. Reading opens the door to so many opportunities, that these children may miss out on without access to books.”
