Schools with an EQI index of 471 and above are eligible to join the Duffy Books in Homes programme.
What does it mean to be a Duffy school?
Our schools play an active part in fostering a love of books and reading in their children. Each school appoints a Duffy Coordinator who will drive the programme and coordinate a variety of events throughout the year. These include: 1. Distributing and collating book order forms 2. Liaising with Duffy Books in Homes to organise Role Model assemblies, Duffy Theatre performances and special awards throughout the year. 3. Keeping in touch with your school’s funding partner 4. Organising weekly ‘Caught Being Good’ awards for students 5. Nominating annual ‘Duffy Champion’ awards for individuals who champion the Duffy programme 6. Completing an online survey twice a year. Download the Year Planner to see the full list of events.
How often do Role Models visit?
We do our best to arrange a Role Model visit to each school to celebrate Book Offers One and Three each year.
Are Role Model assemblies compulsory?
No, but we encourage schools to have at least one role model assembly a year, as they help to promote our kauapapa around books and reading as well as giving tamariki a chance to hear about future possibilities and opportunities. They are also an opportunity to invite and engage with your school's Funding Partner.
How often will our school be invoiced for the book offers?
You will be invoiced twice a year. Once in Term 1, after Book Offer 1 closes and once in Term 3, after Book Offer 3 closes.
How long do our books take to arrive once we place our order?
Scholastic will process your order once it is received, they then use their incredible manpower to handpick all of your Duffy Books before packaging them up and sending them on their way! This time varies for every school depending on location, when you place the order and how long the delivery takes. But if you refer to your "Duffy Year Planner", your books will be with you by the date listed on the planner.
How much does it cost a school to join the Duffy programme?
The cost to each school is dependant on the school roll. Schools pay 50% of the cost, and the other 50% is covered by a funding partner that either the school or Duffy can help find. The cost to a school per child is approximately $15. The costs each year may fluctuate depending on your school’s roll size.
Does Duffy Theatre give out Duffy Books?
No, the books will be given out by a Role Model that will be visiting your school. Our Theatre team will only give out the books if a prior arrangement has been made otherwise, please save your books for your special visitor.
How do we book Duffy Theatre? How much is it?
Duffy Theatre is free! It’s all part of being a Duffy school. As long as you are getting your book orders in and paying your bi-annual invoices then you will be entitled to a Theatre visit. Our Theatre manager will send an email when Duffy Theatre is scheduled to visit your school, just flick a response through to confirm.
What do we need to prepare for Duffy Theatre? Are there teacher notes?
Our Duffy Theatre team will aim to arrive around 1 hour before your scheduled start time, they will need a clear space to set up their set in. They will bring everything they need with them, they won’t need support with microphones etc. If your school would like to put mats down for the students please do this before they arrive. Yes there are teacher notes which can be downloaded from our theatre page. We’d love for you to share the work that your students have worked on that is inspired by the show!
