Sasha Te Whare

Where are you from?
Tokoroa!!
What books did you love growing up?
Was a huge fan of Hairy Maclary. I liked interactive books like pop-up ones and talking ones too. I remember we had massive collection of nursery rhyme books and fairy-tale books that my mum use to read growing up, I would always hook into them. I think they were part of the Golden books collection if I remember correctly. During primary though Captain Underpants was a favourite.
What do you love about reading?
I am just starting to read more and am loving it. I have recently got into short stories and articles online and find them quite entertaining and have found myself getting lost quite easily. It’s an easy escape from the mainstream media. It’s good to know that you are doing something innovative rather than sitting on your phone scrolling through different apps.
What inspired you to be an actor?
At my primary School in Tokoroa we used to go to Forest View High School and watch their productions and it really made me want to take up acting and singing. Who is your favourite storybook character? Would probably have to be George and Harold from Captain Underpants. Always a laugh looking back on those books.
Who are your real life role models?
Growing up in a small but talented town I had tonnes of role models growing up. Most of the teachers at my high school were role models at the time but now it’s just about making a better name for my town and my Family.
What do you look forward to most about touring in The Duffy Show?
Travelling our beautiful country, working with an amazing team of people, working with kids and gaining new skills and growing as an actor and as a person.
Bernadine Gladding

Where are you from?
New Plymouth.
What books did you love growing up?
I loved the Dr Seuss and the Spiderwick Chronicles
What do you love about reading?
I love escaping to other worlds and the way my own imagination transforms the words on a page.
What inspired you to be an actor?
When I perform I feel a special sense of freedom and after being on stage when I was younger I didn't want to stop I guess. My teachers are of course a big inspiration!
Who is your favourite storybook character?
My favourite storybook character is probably Badjelly the Witch - I just really like witches.
Who are your real life role models?
My mum. She is the best person I know.
What do you look forward to most about touring in The Duffy Show?
I'm looking forward to doing something that means something (I really love the message in the play) and also doing something that hopefully inspires young people in more ways than one.
